Art is an expression of the creative self, and is a completely immersive experience that allows us to explore, test, learn, exercise, expand and cultivate our essence. Who says that education needs to stop during a birthday party? Not, I! I think many of us can agree that the most enjoyable and effective exercise we experience is the kind where we don't realize we are exercising at all - insert Zumba, I mean, dancing, here. I create spaces of freedom and focus where individuals, young and old, can learn and develop new skills, experiment through imitation and play, and exercise their unique voices through various enriching activities, whether the playground be a group art class or a birthday party! Art in any form is such a powerful tool, that I believe it can and should be used for the holistic development of every man, woman and child. For those who view themselves as separate from experienced artists, the act of creating a work of art with their own hands boosts confidence, tremendously! It's evident every single time I hear the "ooo's and ahhh's" as a painting begins to rise from the canvas as something intentional and recognizable by the once, inexperienced artist. The first step to greatness is knowing that greatness is achievable, and that it comes from within you, no matter who you are. The beauty of what I do is that I help to build the unique perspective of everyone I serve. The ability to see and assess the self and elements beyond the self from different angles is an invaluable skill. It's what makes us resourceful. It's what makes us understanding. It's what makes us fully connected to the world around us, physically, emotionally and mentally. Art pushes the boundaries of what we believe to be acceptable, possible and fulfilling.
Artistic practices can be embedded in multiple aspects of our lives. These teaching moments don't have to end with traditional school settings, and can continue at the dinner table, during freetime, or during your next celebration with friends and family.
